Originally, Krebsens vendekreds (The Tropic of Cancer) was called Krepsens vennekrets (the same meaning, but in Norwegian, which is slightly differently spelled, which causes a Dane to understand the word vennekreds as “circle of friends”) – because a person (the recorder player Frode Thorsen), who was born in Cancer, had invited – well – his circle of friends for his 30th birthday anniversary. The piece may well be performed independantly of that occasion. Elements from the piece also turn up in the work Tropics.
