In music history there is – with Wagner’s prelude to the Rheingold as the best example – some music, which has come to its composer while he was half-asleep. This also goes for the main melody of the violin concerto. Although this concerto moves through many very different landscapes, the melody is the whole backbone of the work.
The concerto has, furthermore, resulted in a number of other works, like the three violin soloes, a cello solo, and the chamber piece Dream within Dream.
